Buying A Gas Grill 101

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This month might be one of the best times to find some deals on gas grills.

But which one is best for you?

Warners' Stellian manager Chuck Bulson had some tips.

Electronic igniters tend to be the most reliable, and they're battery powered.

"So you turn the gas on, and you press the igniter and boom, it sends a spark and lights the grill," he said. "No turning the gas on, lighting a match and running for cover any more."

Don't be fooled by the size of the grill, either.

"There's not a huge difference in the smaller grill cooking surface to the largest," he said.

When you are looking at the grates, consider what they are made of, as stainless steel and coated cast iron are the most durable.

"The idea is that this grate will hold heat and it will help in the searing aspect," he said.

As for the warranty, because burners are the most frequently replaced part, look for a warranty of at least 10 years.

"The inexpensive grills might have a one-year warranty," he said. "Then if you go to more expensive, you are going to find a grill that has a warranty of up to 25 years on certain parts."

Pocket meat thermometers are helpful so as to not overcook your meat.

Also, be careful what kind of steel brush you use to clean your grill so as to not cause any damage.
