MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A severely malnourished horse was rescued from behind a southwest Miami-Dade home where the remains of a second horse were found in the backyard.
The horse, and the remains, was found during an investigation by the Miami-Dade police department's Agricultural Patrol and Customs and Border Protection.
Laurie Waggoner, director of the organization's ranch operations, said the horse is in pretty bad shape.
"This horse is about 200 pounds underweight, measuring a one possibly two on the body condition scale, nine being extremely obese and one being emaciated," said Waggoner.
The South Florida SPCA said they were able to identify the horse as Rey Midas de Monteverde, a U.S. Reserved National Champion Paso Fino.
