Miami Man Killed In Morning Hit & Run
MIAMI (CBS4) - An elderly Miami man was killed in a hit and run accident early Sunday morning. Now police and the victim's family are asking for the public's help in catching the driver responsible.
"For somebody to hit him and just take off, they know they hit a human being and they left him on the street to die," said Jacqueline Carrillo, the victim's daughter.
Around 6:15 a.m. police said they received a call about a man who needed help near the intersection of SW 5th Avenue and 7th Street. When officers arrived they found a passerby who had seen a bad injured Leo Carrillo, 79, lying in the street and called them for help.
Carrillo was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he died. Police said he lived only a few blocks from the accident scene.
"That was my father and I loved him very much. This is very painful for us," said Jacqueline Carrillo.
Carrillo's family was in the midst of planning his 80th birthday party that would have been held on Wednesday.
Anyone who may have seen the accident or knows who is responsible for it is asked to call the City of Miami Police Department, Traffic Homicide Unit at 305-603-6525 or Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
