Miami Shooting Injures Driver, Sparks Car Fire

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A man shot, a car crash, and a firefight all in one.

The chaos unfolded around 4 a.m. Friday morning under a bridge near Northwest 40th Street and Northwest 10th Avenue.

When police arrived on the scene they found a car on fire and a man suffering from gunshot wounds on the ground nearby. He was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he's listed in critical condition.

"I see a lot of violence in Miami period," said Jacqueline Cooney who lives in the area.

"We're living in crazy times right now. I don't know if it's the pandemic or what's going o,n but it's getting crazier and crazier out here," said Charli Flanders who lives in downtown Miami.

He grew up in the neighborhood and said it's normally pretty quiet.

But through the years, others say they've noticed an uptick in violence. Cooney said this type of violence is, unfortunately, normal.

"You've got to remember we're not in Pembroke Pines, this is normal for us. When you hear shots or cars speeding nobody jumps and runs to look out the window because this is our normal," she said.

According to investigators, preliminary evidence shows the car may have caught fire because of excessive gunfire. Those who live in the area wonder if road rage was to blame.

"I think that's scary because why was he shot? Was it road rage? Did he know the person? There's a lot going on," said Cooney.

A K9 was on scene and detectives scanned the area for evidence but as of now, there is still no suspect or person of interest.

"It's scary. Especially to know there are children in the park over there, there are elderly people walking. Even just myself," said Flanders.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the police.
