Say 'jobs of the future' and people conjure up images of space tourist operators and avatar managers. Future Savvy author Adam Gordon created a list that has some worrying niches (organ agents to mediate between donors and recipients is one), but there are some ideas that sound realistic. Here are four.

We have been toying with the idea of carbon credits for a while but with escalating global warming, it's likely that carbon credits will become a vital currency and so will the traceability manager's job. Part detective, part risk manager, the job would mean examining global supply chains to check for suppliers that might be carbon-costly to your company.

Online gambling pioneer Betfair already invests heavily to ensure it's on top of local gambling laws in all its world markets. But as more and more of our daily life goes online, individuals as well as organisations will look to specialist lawyers to resolve those international legal disputes.

They could look after our email, make sure our data are stored properly and manage our electronic passwords and profiles.

Private clouds may offer some protection, but Gordon foresees a need for waste data handlers to securely dispose of sensitive material (online and off) and erase traces of those who don't want to be tracked.
