A suspect was taken into custody after shots were fired Sunday night near where people were gathered to remember singer Vicente Fernández on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Both Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators and South Gate Police Department officers are working together in the investigation into the incident surrounding the man's death on Saturday.
The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening on York Boulevard.
Calls about the incident came in just after midnight, when neighbors heard gunfire ring out on 35th Place, near Normandie Avenue.
Deputies responded to the 17000 block of Hurley Street at around 8:01 p.m. where they discovered an unresponsive victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers on patrol heard the gunshots and responded to find a man on the ground with gunshot wounds.
One suspect has been arrested and a second is at large after a teenage boy was shot and killed outside of a recreation center in Boyle Heights Tuesday afternoon.
"It's the worst news a mother could ever get, the worst. I went crazy," Jenny Romero, the 12-year-old's heartbroken mother, said.
The suspect was armed with a knife, officials said.

According to the LAPD, 58-year-old Keith Pullam confronted his estranged girlfriend Cynthia Hairston on Oct. 20 in the 1500 block of East 21st Street and fired several shots at her.
The incident was reported at approximately 8:14 p.m., according to the LA County Sheriff's Department.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department first responded to a call of shots fired at the 11000 block of Huston Street, near Lankershim Boulevard, at around 7:05 p.m.
Authorities arrested the man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Orange on Sunday.
Authorities are investigating whether or not the shooting is gang-related. The man was supposedly in his late-20's.
