The man is reportedly in stable condition after being shot while sitting in his vehicle in South Los Angeles.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation has been opened into the incident.
The victims were conscious and breathing when officers arrived on scene, police said.
"We're gonna switch over to rubber guns, and we're gonna take care of it in post, we're not gonna worry about the dollars, we won't worry about what it costs."
Authorities are investigating whether a similar shooting in South Whittier earlier in the evening is connected.
The incident took place at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Central Ave. The child was shot in the foot and transported to the hospital. As of 9:27 p.m. on Tuesday, police do not have any details no a possible suspect.
