Earlier Tuesday, a federal judge again blocked the board from adding President Trump's name to the facade of the building.
The Kennedy Center's board of trustees voted to add President Trump's name to the facade of the performing arts center, more than two months after a judge ordered its removal, according to a Democrat who sits on the center's board.
A federal appellate court denied a last-minute attempt by the Trump administration to stop the removal of President Trump's name from the Kennedy Center on Friday.
A judge blocked the Kennedy Center from closing its doors during renovations, and ruled that its board acted unlawfully by adding President Trump's name to the building. The president reacted by saying he wants Congress to take it over.
Complete closure of the performing arts center in Washington, D.C., will start on July 4, Mr. Trump said. It's not yet clear how extensive the changes to the building might be.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Kennedy Center's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to change its name.
