Young Children Consume Too Much Fast Food, UCLA Researchers Say

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Young children are consuming too much fast food, according to researchers at UCLA.

KNX 1070's Ed Mertz reported that Sue Holtby with the UCLA Center For Health Policy Research asked kids between the ages of 2 and 5 what they eat.

"Sixty percent of kids in this age group eat fast food at least once a week," she said.

Holtby added that nearly 30 percent have two or more fast food meals a week, while 10 percent of the kids eat three or more fast food meals a week.

"Kids starting off at a young age already being overweight ... gets harder and harder to get that weight off. And you've developed that taste for certain kinds of foods that just carries on through to the teen years," she said.
