Witnesses, Suspect Sought In Assault On Santa Monica Beach
SANTA MONICA (CBS) — Police asked the public for help Monday in catching a suspect in a robbery at the beach that left a man hospitalized in critical condition.
The crime occurred about 9 p.m. on Sept. 4 between the bike path and the beach restrooms in the general area east of Ocean Park Boulevard, police said.
Officers were sent to the scene "regarding a report of a male adult lying unconscious on the ground while a subject stood over the victim and removed his property," police said. The injured man remains hospitalized in critical condition.
A witness who saw part of the crime gave officers information that led to the detention of two possible suspects.
"Investigators have learned that at the time of the assault, there were several individuals in the general area who may have witnessed the crime, and (detectives) would like to speak with them," police said.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Detective Larios at (310) 458-8937; Sgt. Rutan, (310) 458-8959; or the watch commander, (310) 458-8495.
