Whittier Man Suspected In Vicious Stabbings Turned Over To LASD
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Whittier-area man suspected in three stabbings last year was being held without bail in Los Angeles Thursday after serving a sentence in Mexico.
Thirty-four-year-old Alfred Tapia, a reputed gang member, was being held on attempted murder charges after he was turned over to U.S. authorities Wednesday, according to a Los Angeles Sheriff's Department spokesperson.
Tapia was arrested in December 2013 following a massive manhunt led by the LASD and the U.S. Marshal's Office after he was allegedly identified as being responsible for three vicious stabbing attacks in Pico Rivera, Whittier and Chino in December 2013.
He was subsequently convicted of an armed robbery that occurred in Tijuana, Mexico.
Mexican authorities in Tijuana released Tapia to U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement officials at the international border at San Ysidro at approximately 12 p.m. Wednesday.
LASD detectives took Tapia into custody and subsequently booked him at the Pico Rivera sheriff's station for arrest warrants and a parole violation.
He is currently awaiting arraignment on multiple counts of attempted murder and had no bail set at press time.
