What's The Right Way Go Pronounce These?
In Nevada, a state legislator has submitted a proposal to make certain everybody knows how to pronounce the name of his state. I'm in the minority on this one, because I think it should be pronounced Nuh-VAH'-duh. But most residents prefer Nuh-VAA'-duh. So on the air, I say Neh-VAA'-duh too.
Southern California has a million similar examples. I go with the long-timers on San PEE'-dro, instead of the more historically correct San PAY'-dro. Also, locals hate people who say San LEW'-ee Obispo, instead of San Lew-EES'....
I know the Riverside county city of Rubidoux is pronounced ROO'-bih-DOUGH', not ROO-bih-DOO; but still sometimes I say it wrong on TV. Not for a while, knock on wood.
What am I forgetting? What other names have definitely correct, and definitely wrong, pronunciations? Leave your list in Comments, below.
