Monday, January 16

In honor of Martin Luther King Day LACMA is offering free admission all day to the museum during Target Free Holiday Monday. The free admission is from 12 - 8pm. Free tickets are required, so go online and reserve your tickets now. This is a great opportunity to check out Chris Burden's Metropolis II or discover the importance of indigenous art forms from the Aztec and Inca during the colonial period in the exhibition Contested Visions in the Spanish Colonial World and hear music from the Andes in a live concert by Inca.

At 10:15 AM on Monday, January 16, the nation's largest MLK Day parade kicks off on Martin Luther King Blvd at Western and continues for two miles until Crenshaw and then down Vernon. More than 150 floats, 20 drill teams, ten dance groups, celebrities, politicians, and military marching bands mark the occasion. Streets around the parade area are closed from 8.30am.

Kick off The Year of the Dragon in Beverly Hills, Friday, January 20, from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM as Rodeo Drive is transformed into a street party with custom appointments including floral embellishments representing good fortune and cultural décor expressing power and wisdom. At 6pm the event kicks off with a traditional Chinese lion dance and drum corps by the award-winning EAST WIND Dance Troupe out of Los Angeles' Chinatown. In the spirit of the holiday, the first 1,000 attendees will receive a red Good Fortune envelope each filled with special offers from participating retailers and restaurants. More than 45 retailers and restaurants will be offering special deals throughout the evening.

OVO, the latest installation from Cirque du Soleil open on Friday, January 20th under the Big Top in Santa Monica. Get your tickets now for opening day! OVO, meaning "egg" in Portuguese, is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The show runs from January 20 - February 26 for General Admission and through March 20 for Cirque Club Members.

Head out to the Fowler Museum on Sunday January 22 for a Family Jam session featuring the melodic music of Zimbabwe, Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania. You and your family will have a chance to build your own drums and shakers and then join in!. Event takes place 2pm - 4pm.
