Vote To Dissolve Troubled City Of Vernon Fails
VERNON (CBS) — After a six-month battle, a new vote to dissolve the city of Vernon has failed.
The California Senate has voted against dissolving the troubled city, but only by a narrow margin.
Monday night's 17 to 13 vote came just hours after the Internal Revenue Service notified Vernon officials that it was auditing a $419 million tax-exempt bond deal.
State Assembly Speaker John Perez, who pushed for the bill, says Vernon is too corrupt to function properly, even if it makes major reforms.
