Verizon Provides Info For Customers Trying To Avoid Phone Scams, Frauds

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Do you check your phone bill...carefully?

You should.

Experts say there are all kinds of frauds, schemes, scams and security breaches that sometimes allow people to use your phone number to make calls you don't authorize.

As Juan Fernandez reported on CBS2 News at 11 p.m. Wednesday, sometimes the fraud is obvious. One caller knew something was amiss when she was charged more than $800 for calling Egypt...and she doesn't know anyone there.

Verizon has set up a security page, to help consumers remain vigilant in the face of fraud...and what to do if you believe your phone or account has been compromised.
