Van Nuys Brewery Worker Suffers Serious Burns In Accident

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — An Anheuser-Busch brewery worker suffered serious burns Sunday afternoon after falling into a vat of hot mash at the bottling plant in Van Nuys, authorities said.

The worker, a man is his 40s, was attempting to funnel sediments from the mash into a tanker truck when fell into the vat containing the 180-degree mixture, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to the brewery, located at 15800 Roscoe Blvd., just before 1 p.m., Humphrey said. The man was able to get out of the vat himself, and paramedics took him to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.

The man suffered burns to 30 percent of his body, including first- and second-degree burns to his thighs, Humphrey said.
