UCLA Edges Out USC In New U.S. News & World Report Rankings

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — It's no longer a tie! UCLA has edged out USC in the latest rankings of America's best universities, according U.S. News & World Report.

UCLA ranked 23rd and tied with the University of Virginia. USC and Carnegie Mellon University followed closely behind, both ranked at 25.

In 2014, the cross-town rivals were tied at 24.

The number one spot in 2015 went to Princeton for the second year in a row, followed by Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Stanford.

Cal Tech (10) in Pasadena was the only SoCal school to rank in the top 20.

The schools in the annual list "offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral programs. These colleges also are committed to producing groundbreaking research," U.S. News & World Report said of the rankings.
