Uber Driver Stabbed In Bellflower

BELLFLOWER ( — An Uber driver was attacked while trying to pick up passengers in Bellflower.

Moe Elhilu was stabbed outside Flux Bar at 17817 Lakewood Boulevard shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Eric Lindblom said.

The driver got out of the car to open the door for his passengers, two males and two females, when some guys approached and asked for money.

When Elhilu tried to get back in the vehicle, one of the men stabbed him and a Good Samaritan, Lindblom added.

"I thought he punched me in the back. And I got mad and said why did you guys touch me?" Elhilu recalled.

At first, the driver thought he was punched, but later discovered he had been stabbed. "I reached my back, and I felt a hole and my back wet. I pulled my hand forward, and I saw red," Elhilu said. "I just feel these guys were out to hurt somebody."

Flux bar wrote on its Facebook page: "It grieves us that people now a days are so violent. These individuals were NEVER in Flux. The only involvement our customers had in the incident was attempting to stop a fight that spilled into our lot."

"These are unpredictable. I didn't want to get killed. That's why I didn't want to go forward. I don't want no problem. I want to protect the passengers in my car and leave," Elhilu said.

He said since this happened, other Uber drivers have advised him never to get out of the car, and he plans to heed their advice.

But once he fully recovers, He will drive for Uber again. "I'll be more careful, when I drive this time."

Elhilu started driving for Uber a month ago.

A spokesperson for Uber released the following statement to CBS Los Angeles:

"Our heart goes out to the victims of this senseless act of violence. We have reached out to this valued member of the Uber community and have offered our assistance to law enforcement in their investigation."
