True Blood Halloween: Brunch In Bontemps

After decking out my dining table like the vampire club Fangtasia, I invited in some vamps, shapeshifters and even a monster from out of town.  My guests dined on bloody pecan pumpkin pancakes and spidery deviled eggs.  I served a pair of signature cocktails called the Fanglicious and Jason Stackhouse Screwdriver.  It's the most fun I've had in the past century!

For more devilish delights, check out my blog here.  I've posted all of the recipes below.  Enjoy.

Spidery Deviled Eggs

  • 6 hard-boiled eggs
  • 12 black olives
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Paprika

Directions: After boiling, slice eggs in half lengthwise.  Put the yolks into a mixing bowl and set whites aside.   Mash the yolks with a fork, then mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, mustard and salt; mix well.  Stuff the filling into a plastic bag and cut out the corner.  Pipe into egg whites so it's heaping.  Assemble black olive spiders on top and sprinkle with paprika. Refrigerate until serving.  I made these the night before my party

Bloody Pumpkin Pancakes

  • Williams-Sonoma Pecan Pumpkin Mix (makes your house smell like pumpkin pie!)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tbs butter
  • maple syrup
  • red food coloring

Directions: Make the pancakes according to instructions.  I served two big pancakes each.  In a creamer (or syrup server if you have one), add a cup of maple syrup, then three or four drops of red food coloring, stir with a spoon and serve.

The Fanglicious

  • bottle of champagne
  • cranberry juice
  • Blavod black vodka (sold at bevmo)

Directions: Fill champagne glass 1/3 full of champange, fill until an inch from the top with cranberry juice, add a dash of black vodka for color.  If you can't find black vodka, serve the drink with 1/2 champagne and cranberry juice.

The Jason Stackhouse Screwdriver

  • orange juice (If you can, buy fresh with a little pulp.  It works best)
  • Blavod black vodka (sold at bevmo)
  • ice
  • swizzle sticks

Directions: Add a few ice cubes to a highball glass, fill glass 2/3 full with orange juice, slowly add a shot of vodka (a 3 second pour is a generous shot) Serve like this for the visual effect, but stir for sipping and it turns a swampy green.

Happy Halloween everyone!
