Freeway Reopens 9 Hours After Fiery Big-Rig Crash

HACIENDA HEIGHTS, Calif. (AP) — Freeway lanes east of Los Angeles have reopened more than nine hours after two big-rigs collided, one of them catching fire.

The California Highway Patrol says two eastbound lanes of the five-lane Pomona Freeway, State Route 60, in the Hacienda Heights area were opened at 5:30 a.m. They were shut down after the 8:15 p.m. Monday crash.

Three lanes remain closed while spilled fuel is cleaned out of a storm drain.

CHP Officer Monica Posada says the big-rigs were traveling eastbound when they collided, one flipping on its side and the other catching fire. The fire was extinguished in 20 minutes.

The truckers weren't hurt.

One tractor-trailer rig was hauling dog food, the other was carrying tires.
