Teenage Couple Face Charges Of Trying To Kill Her Ex-Boyfriend
NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — A teenage couple will be arraigned Friday for allegedly trying to kill her ex-boyfriend in Costa Mesa.
Jessica Gascon, 18, of Santa Ana, and Fernando Sanchez, 17, of Santa Ana, have been arrested and charged with conspiracy, attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic gun and shooting at a house, all felonies, Orange County District Attorney's spokeswoman Farrah Emami said.
Sanchez, who was charged as an adult, was also charged with criminal threats and faces sentencing enhancement allegations for shooting a gun and the use of a gun.
Gascon and the alleged victim dated briefly, Costa Mesa police said.
Emami says Gascon and the 20-year-old man, whose name was not released, saw each other about 10 p.m. Later that night, Gascon told Sanchez that the man had made unwanted sexual advances toward her, according to Emami.
Sanchez and Gascon went to the man's home about midnight and Gascon called the man from her cell phone and asked him to meet her outside, Emami said.
When the man came out of his home, Sanchez allegedly confronted him at gunpoint. When the man ran away, Sanchez, fired a shot at him but missed, and the bullet went into a home in the 500 block of Wilson Street, Emami said. No one was hurt.
Later that day, Emami says Sanchez posted threatening messages about the victim on Facebook.
Sanchez and Gascon were arrested May 1.
Sanchez faces up to 55 years to life in prison if he is convicted of all the charges, while Gascon faces up to 25 years to life in prison. Both are being held on $1 million bail.
