Teen Struck Outside Irvine House Party Remains In ICU

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — The family of an Orange County teen who was struck by a vehicle outside a house party Friday say he is trying to stay positive despite sustaining extensive serious injuries.

Caleb Taylor, an Irvine resident, athlete and student, is in ICU at a Santa Ana hospital after a car allegedly drove into a crowd.

Taylor, who friends and family say is a talented baseball player, is unable to walk at present. He recently underwent his second surgery.

"He gave me a thumbs up, and he's just trying to stay as positive as he can," said his older brother, Bronson Taylor. Family have been by his side around the clock.

"He's the greatest kid in the world," his brother said. "All his friends will tell you he's just the funniest, and great kid to be around."

Caleb Taylor's family said he was with a group of friends at a house party in an Irvine neighborhood last Friday night. He was reportedly trying to break up a fight outside when an enraged driver drove into the crowd at high speeds, injuring three people. Taylor was among those most seriously hurt.

The Irvine Police Department said a call came in around 10:18 p.m. Friday reporting the crash at the intersection of West Yale Loop and Stone Creek North.

"The car intentionally went full speed," said his friend, Keyvan Aminzadeh.

Irvine police said there were multiple injuries and one arrest.

The suspect was reportedly released on bail and is due in court Tuesday.
