LAKE BALBOA (CBSLA) — A young boy was beaten, and two people were allegedly stabbed during an altercation that started at Mulholland Middle School and spilled out into the street in Lake Balboa Thursday.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the 17100 block of Vanowen Street at 3:13 p.m. to reports of a person injured.
Video showed several people involved in the altercation shortly after school let out. According to witnesses, the 12- or 13-year-old boy appeared to have used scissors to try to defend himself.
Children at the scene told CBSLA's Kandiss Crone that the student used the scissors in an effort to ward off attackers.
"He came running right here and they got him with the scissors," said student Anthony Guerra.
It was not immediately clear what prompted the fight or what the students were arguing about.
The student who initially pulled out the scissors was taken to a hospital for his injuries sustained by the beating and was expected to be OK.
During the altercation, two people were allegedly stabbed by the student with the scissors. They later arrived at local hospitals with stab wounds and in unknown condition, according to school police. They were not taken by ambulance.
Multiple people of interest are in custody, Perez said. The Los Angeles School Police Department is handling.
Officers were seen searching for scissors in the area and had recovered a skateboard which they took in for processing and fingerprinting.
