Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games Kick Off Saturday
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — More than 1,100 athletes from across Southern California are expected to compete in the Special Olympics Summer Games starting Saturday in Long Beach.
Today, in Hawthorne local police officers helped draw attention to the opening games by participating in the "Flame of Hope" run. Members of law enforcement carried the torch a combined 250 miles.
More than 4,000 officers participate in the run every year helping to raise $1 million for the Special Olympics.
The games will include bocce, golf, gymnastics, track and field and aquatics.
