South LA Barricade Suspect Taken Into Custody After 3 Hours

SOUTH LOS ANGELES ( — A man who barricaded himself inside a South Los Angeles home after allegedly firing a shot  at police officers was taken into custody Saturday afternoon.

It was unclear if the man gave up willingly or if police took him out of the residence by force.

Officials were first called to the location of 57th and Main Street around 10:30 a.m. responding to a call about a man with a gun, according to the LA Times.

The suspect allegedly fired a handgun at the officers as they approached. The suspect disappeared into a home in the 100 block of West 57th Street, the newspaper reported.

Police said one of the officers was able to return fire, but the suspect was not hit.

The LAPD's bomb squad and SWAT unit were dispatched to the home, and the suspect was taken into custody by 1:30 p.m., said the Times.
