Snow Falls On Desert Communities

YUCCA VALLEY ( — Desert communities woke up Thursday to find snow on their cactuses following the third large storm to hit Southern California the first week of the year.

With snow levels dropping between 4,000-5,000 feet, snow fell on Yucca Valley and parts of Palm Springs. Residents like Wanda Gemson discovered snow on her cactus early Thursday morning.

"Not snow people but this is fun sometimes in moderation," Gemson wrote to CBS2/KCAL9.

In the Cajon Pass along Interstate 15, the Summit Inn in Oak Hills, at the top of the pass, sent in a photo of tire tracks left in a light dusting of snow. There were reports of slow traffic through the pass due to snow.

In the mountain areas, Snowline Joint and Rim of the World school districts said all their campuses would be closed due to inclement weather.
