Ski Resorts In Wrightwood Hoping For Additional Snow

WRIGHTWOOD ( — Night skiers and snowboarders at Mountain High took advantage of the two inches of fresh snow that fell over the weekend.

But, they say, they're hoping for a white Christmas as the resort expects another four inches this week.

"Like last year, I probably went up here maybe like three or four times only because we really didn't get that much snow," Allison Najera, a snowboarder, said. "This is the closest one to home so
I would love to have that extra four inches. It would be like the best Christmas ever. Honestly."

Mountain High representatives are hoping Mother Nature and El Nino will help them out over the next couple of weeks after dry and dismal seasons over the last few years.

"We've been having some success with our snow-making, adding a good 10 inches on for our base. We're looking at anywhere from 10 to 18 inches base right now so anything on top of that is a plus," said Gary Tarver, the night manager for Mountain High.

Down in Wrightwood at the Grizzly Café, a sign that reads "Pray for Snow," says it all as locals are hoping the anticipated snowfall later in the week will keep visitors in town through the holidays.

"That'll be the first time in 25 years we'll have snow on Christmas day so we're really looking forward to it," Leo Hordyk, the owner of the Grizzly Café, said.
