Sheriff: San Bernardino County Substitute Teacher Gave Student Cell Phone To Conduct Relationship

HESPERIA (CBS) — A substitute teacher in San Bernardino County was arrested on suspicion of having an ongoing relationship with a child, and police want to know if he has any more victims.

Joshua Marco Lopez, 24, of Victorville, who worked as a substitute teacher within the Adelanto Elementery School District, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and contact with a minor with intent to commit sexual offense, San Bernardino Sheriff's spokeswoman Susan Rose said.

Lopez is being held on $250,000 bail.

A mother called the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department's Hesperia station Tuesday to report that Lopez had given her child a cell phone so they could conduct an ongoing relationship, authorities said. Lopez reportedly was the child's math tutor at one point and the two apparently had an ongoing relationship for the past two years.

The victim is not a student in the Adelanto School District, Rose said.

Anyone with information about Lopez or who believes their child may have been a victim can call the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department at (760) 245-4211.
