Schwarzenegger Pushes Local Governments On Climate

DAVIS, Calif. (AP) — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger opened his third and final climate-change summit by calling on states and local governments worldwide to continue their own efforts to combat global warming.

The outgoing Republican governor says efforts must continue even though an international agreement remains elusive to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions blamed for rising global temperatures.

More than 1,500 elected officials, business leaders, environmental advocates and nonprofit organizations from 80 states, provinces and countries gathered Monday at the summit. The event was held at the University of California, Davis.

Countries involved in United Nations climate talks continue to disagree on how much to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
