LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 56 years to life in prison in Los Angeles for killing his girlfriend and stuffing her body in the trunk of her car.

A judge sentenced 25-year-old Adel Chapel, of Santa Monica Thursday after a jury last month convicted him of murdering 22-year-old Denise Figueroa.

Authorities say Chapel beat Figueroa last year with a hammer and stuffed her body inside a Nissan Altima.

Her body was discovered after an anonymous letter was faxed to a TV station telling authorities where to look.
