IRVINE (CBS) — The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is mourning the loss of a veteran detective after he was killed in an off-duty traffic accident.
Detective Duane Parkison was riding his bike on Shady Canyon Road in Irvine Wednesday when a SUV struck him from behind, officials said.
Two fellow bike riders performed CPR, but Parkison later died at an area hospital.
Detective Parkison began his career as a reserve officer for the city of Victorville. He was hired full-time by the sheriff's department in 1996 and was promoted to detective in 2007.
Parkison leaves behind a wife and three children.
