Rossmoor Residents On Alert After Man Reportedly Tries To Lure 2 Girls Into His Van

ROSSMOOR (CBSLA.com) —Rossmoor residents are on alert after a man reportedly tried to lure two young girls into his van last month.

The girls, ages 8 and 9, told Orange County sheriff's detectives they were standing at a corner near Lee Elementary School on March 24 when they noticed a silver/gray minivan with its back window blown out pull up about 10 feet away from them.

The victims' mothers, Cathy and Kim, who didn't want to reveal their last names, said the driver got out of the car, walked toward them and said, "Come here."

The moms said their daughters took off running.

"He got back in the van, he flipped a U-turn and followed them," one of the women told KCAL9's Stacey Butler.

Detectives said the girls hid in the bushes while the suspect looked for them.

After a few minutes, the man drove away.

Authorities described the suspect as a white man in his mid-50s with gray hair. He was wearing a plaid shirt.

The suspect also had a teenage boy in the vehicle with him.

On March 26, Sherry Kropp, the Los Alamitos Unified School District superintendent, sent an email to parents about the incident.

She told Butler she will now send parents the composite sketch of the suspect.
