The deadly shooting occurred during an argument at Boatman's home in March 2010, after he picked up Marth from her family's house before dawn.

According to authorities, Boatman had tried to convince police that the girl accidentally shot herself.

The 23-year-old was a marijuana addict and dealer who had been dating the teen for about a year prior to the shooting.

Two days before the shooting, he had been arrested on suspicion of recklessly discharging a firearm and posted $50,000 bail.
