Riverside County Deputies Kill Gun-Wielding Man

RIVERSIDE (AP) — Riverside County sheriff's deputies have killed a man they say pointed a gun at them after an hour-long standoff.

Sgt. Joe Borja tells the Riverside Press-Enterprise that deputies were called to a home in the community of Anza shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

He says deputies found a man sitting in a car with a gun to his head.

Borja says deputies tried for nearly an hour to persuade the man to leave the car and surrender and eventually called for a crisis negotiation team.

However, Borja says that before the team arrived, the man stepped out of the car and pointed the gun at deputies, who shot him.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital. His name wasn't released.
