Retired High School Spanish Teacher, 57, Pleads Guilty To Having Sex With Female Student
NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — A now-retired Laguna Hills High School Spanish teacher pleaded guilty Wednesday to having sex with one of his female students.
David Araya, 57, pleaded guilty to luring a child with an intent to commit a crime, oral copulation of a child and unlawful sex, all felonies.
Araya also pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of annoying or molesting a child, according to court records.
Araya started the sexual relationship with a student in August 2009, Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said in January.
The girl's mother discovered the relationship when she checked her daughter's Facebook account and saw sexually charged communications between the girl and her teacher, Amormino said.
Araya taught at the high school for about 10 years, but retired when investigators confronted him about the relationship with his student, Amormino said.
Sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 12.
