Pursuit Suspect On Culver City Rooftop Surrenders After High-Speed Chase, Stand-Off

LANCASTER ( — A suspected DUI driver who led authorities on a pursuit Monday through several cities across the Southland before fleeing to a Culver City rooftop has handed himself over to authorities.

The chase began around 12:43 p.m. in Palmdale after reports of a white Ford Explore driving recklessly along the 14 Freeway, according to Lancaster Sheriff's Department.

Authorities were in pursuit of the vehicle southbound on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway near the Newhall Pass. The vehicle had traveled south on the Hollywood (170) Freeway in the North Hollywood area around 1:15 p.m.

The driver exited the Hollywood (101) Freeway on Melrose Avenue and headed southbound along Western Boulevard. The vehicle then ventured through the upscale Hancock Park area and down along to the Mid-City area before driving through residential streets in Beverly Hills.

Around 1:40 p.m., the suspect came to a stop in Culver City and apparently fled on foot near Van Buren Place and Lucerne Avenue, according to CHP.

A search for the suspect was ongoing near an apartment building at Duquesne and Lucerne Avenues, police said. He was later seen on the roof of the apartment building.

The suspect appeared to be gathering materials near the door of the roof as a makeshift barricade.

The stand-off ended after about four hours, when the suspect un-barricaded the door and gave himself up.

One suspect, possibly the passenger in the vehicle, was also taken into custody, authorities said.

The suspect was seen driving at speeds near 100 m.p.h., authorities said. No one was injured.

One of the suspects in the vehicle had been wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting, according to reports.
