Police Say They Have Suspect In Fatal Road Rage Incident Behind Bars
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Last week, the mother of Juan David Vasquez Loma made an emotional plea for someone to come forward with information about the man police say murdered her 20-year-old son after an incident of road rage.
Police are confirming to CBS2 and KCAL9's Suraya Fadel Sunday evening that they have a suspect in custody -- on an unrelated charge.
But they expect to formally charge this suspect sometime Monday for the fatal road rage attack.
The did not name the suspect but said he was 18-years-old and lives with his mother, not far from the crime scene. The female suspect who was reportedly in the car with the shooter at the time is possibly going to be called as a witness.
The LAPD's official comment: "A suspect has been ID'd but not charged. Detectives will be filing a case tomorrow" with the DA's office.
Councilman Tom LaBonge credited "good old fashioned police work" with the suspect being named.
Vazquez was shot in the head while driving two co-workers home in the early morning hours of August 7. The youngest of four children, Vasquez worked two jobs to help support the family back home. He was a bus boy at one restaurant and delivered pizzas for another.
The shooting took place at Silver Lake Boulevard and West Scott Place.
Vazquez' mother took her son off life support on her birthday. She returned his body to Mexico last week for burial.
