Police detain dirt bike rider suspect allegedly armed with a gun in South LA
Los Angeles Police Department officers are in pursuit of a dirt bike rider allegedly armed with a gun in Los Angeles.
Police have been chasing the driver near Dodger Stadium, through downtown LA, along Figueroa Street, into Watts, and into East Los Angeles as the driver showboats, using his cellphone, stopping for gas, standing up on the bike, and riding onto park fields, among other tactics.
At S. Alameda Street in East LA, the driver stopped at a gas station to fill up, then took off with the gas nozzle still attached.
He was on his cellphone while riding through Watts, standing up on his motorcycle and going the wrong way. He crossed over a field at Earvin "Magic" Johnson Park, then led police onto a field in Athens Park, circling around as parkgoers moved out of the way.
At some point, the driver ditched his motorcycle and ran into a neighborhood at 112th Street and S. Broadway in South LA.
Officers took a man into custody in a home's driveway.
