Police Hope Public Can Help Lead Them To Echo Park Murder Suspect

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  Homicide Detectives with the LAPD's Rampart division are hoping the public can help lead them to a murder suspect.

On Thursday, July 21, around 10:40 p.m., the victim and two friends were in Echo Park near Park Ave and Lemoyne Street when approached by an unknown male.

The victim and his friends were waiting outside a bathroom in the park when they said the suspect punched the victim in the face.

Police said the victim then pushed the suspect. The suspect then allegedly produced a sharp metal object and stabbed the victim in the chest.

The suspect -- described as a Latino, about 30-40 years old, bald with brown eyes -- was last seen walking northbound on Lemoyne Street towards Sunset Blvd. The suspect is about 5 feet 9 inches tall, 180-190 pounds and has tattoos on both arms, police said. When last seen, the suspect was wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact Rampart Homicide Detective Martinez at (213) 484-3642 or Detective Chung at (213) 484-3643.
