Pamela Anderson Says She's Cured Of Hepatitis C

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Pamela Anderson says she's cured of Hepatitis C.

The former "Baywatch" star posted a nude photo of her on Instagram saying: "I am CURED!!! - I pray I pray anyone living with Hep C can qualify or afford treatment. I know treatment is hard to get." But she did not specify what kind of treatment she had.

In 2002, the 48-year-old disclosed she had the viral disease that affects the liver. At the time she said she contracted the illness by sharing a tattoo needle with one of her ex-husbands, rock drummer Tommy Lee, who denied her claim.

"It's going to be a year of basically having the flu," she told Larry King on CNN about the treatment, which she described as injections of the antiviral drug interferon.  "Your hair falls out. It's a little kind of chemotherapy.

"I want to do it for my kids, because I don't want to die," she said.

Millions of Americans have hepatitis C, which is serious because it often leads to chronic liver disease.

But that was 13 years ago, and apparently Anderson's "cure" is the result of a new anti-viral treatment also approved by the FDA.

Anderson told People in August that she was on another drug regimen and that she hoped to be cured "within a month." But she didn't say what it was.
