51-year-old Nobu employee killed in Malibu crash after being hit by teen driver
A juvenile crashed into a parked car on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu early Saturday morning, leaving its lone occupant dead, according to authorities.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the crash occurred at about 6:53 a.m. near 22600 PCH. Investigations revealed that a 16-year-old boy was driving a gray Range Rover SUV eastbound on PCH when he struck a parked vehicle that was on the eastbound shoulder of the road.
The boy, who hasn't been publicly identified, was arrested after the crash, according to LASD deputies. They have not yet said if he had a valid driver's license.
The occupant inside the parked vehicle, who has been identified as 51-year-old Ryo Uchimiya, was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies confirmed that he was an employee at Nobu, which is located just a block from where the crash occurred.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Drug or alcohol use does not appear to be a factor.
CBS LA reached out to Nobu for comment on Uchimiya's death, but has not yet heard back.
