O.C. Man Gets 15 To Life For Killing Roommate, An Iraq War Veteran
SANTA ANA (AP) — A Southern California man who killed his roommate, an Iraq War veteran, has been given 15 years to life in prison.
Kwang Chol Joy of Orange was sentenced Friday for second-degree murder.
City News Service says Joy declared his innocence and said he misses Maribel Ramos. The victim's sister, Lucy Gonzalez, says the comments made her furious.
The 36-year-old Ramos had done two tours of duty in Iraq and was a student at Cal State Fullerton.
Authorities say the day before Ramos vanished in May of last year, she argued with Joy and ordered him to move out for failing to pay rent.
Investigators watched Joy and found Ramos's body after he used a library computer to research body decomposition and check on the canyon where he'd buried her.
