NWS: Classic Monsoon Conditions Heading To Coachella Valley

PALM SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — Humid conditions with isolated thunderstorms are expected within the Coachella Valley on Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain may also occur late tonight into early next week.

"We're going to have an extended period of classic monsoon conditions," said Tina Stall, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's San Diego office.

Two weeks ago, remnants of Hurricane Dolores dumped rain across Southern California, which resulted in the collapse of a 30-foot bridge on the 10 Freeway.

The collapse subsequently resulted in a complete closure of the freeway in Desert Center for five days.

Since the incident, Caltrans has sent crews to inspect every bridge and drainage culvert within a 70-mile stretch of the 10 Freeway from Highway 111 to an area just west of Blythe to make sure debris is cleared out for water to flow properly.

Today's storm is driven by moisture coming from the Gulf of Mexico, which will mostly affect only the mountain and desert areas.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the low 100s through Friday. They will climb to 110 degrees or above by the weekend.
