3 San Fernando Valley men arrested for string of Orange County residential burglaries
Newport Beach and Irvine police arrested three Los Angeles men suspected in a string of residential burglaries in recent weeks.
"Over the past few months, a burglary crew has been suspected of committing several residential burglaries in Newport Beach," said a news release shared on Facebook by the Newport Beach Police Department. "The same men are suspected of traveling from Los Angeles County to the Shady Canyon area of Irvine on January 10 and conspiring to burglarize a residence."
Police said that the men jumped over a fence while carrying backpacks, which was witnessed by police who were surveilling the suspects. For an undisclosed reason, detectives said the suspects' alleged burglary plans were disrupted, and that they then traveled to the Turtle Rock area, where other burglaries had previously occurred.
"There, they were seen walking into an open space and crouching in nearby bushes before fleeing the area at a high rate of speed in a vehicle," the release said.
Newport Beach and Irvine police detectives partnered to identify the suspects, according to the release. They said that extensive surveillance and evidence gathering led to the three arrests on Wednesday.
They identified the suspects as 32-year-old John Brayan Soliz-Reinoso and 32-year-old Francisco Alegria, both of Reseda, and 22-year-old Northridge man Daniel Mejias-Reinoso. Newport Beach police said that they are "believed to be linked to a transnational organized residential burglary crime ring."
Detectives asked anyone who may know more or who believes they were also victimized to contact them at mward@cityofirvine.org or jgranger@nbpd.org.
