Mother Faces Charges In SUV Crash That Injured 6 Children
LANCASTER (CBS/AP) — A 31-year-old mother faces felony charges after an SUV she was driving rolled over in Southern California, leaving six small children injured.
California Highway Patrol Officer Abel Hernandez says Stanesha Allen is recovering Monday at a hospital with minor injuries. He says she will be arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and child endangerment.
"The officer did notice signs of intoxication, the odor, blood shot, watery eyes and he does suspect DUI," said Officer Hernandez.
Some of the children, ranging in age from one to 11-years-old, were thrown from the 2002 Toyota Sequoia Sunday when it flipped four times. Hernandez says Allen's 4-year-old daughter suffered head trauma, a fractured skull and an unknown object was found in her brain. She is listed in critical condition.
Her 2-year-old foster son had his left leg and right foot amputated. The other children, who suffered cuts and bruises, were in child protective custody Tuesday.
Hernandez says the younger children were in improperly installed child safety seats.
