Man Fatally Shot After Allegedly Pointing Gun At LAPD Officer
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A man was shot and killed late Sunday night when he allegedly pointed a gun at an LAPD officer after a chase in South Los Angeles.
The deadly police shooting took place at 11 p.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of West 53rd Street.
Officers responding to the scene of a loud party saw a large group of people gathered outside a residence. When they approached the group, officers say one man grabbed at his waistband and ran, prompting the officers to assume he either had a weapon or drugs.
They chased after the suspect, who allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at one of the officers.
"I had just started sleeping and then I heard some shots and then I woke up," says 14-year-old Josue Aguscin, who heard five shots. "I went to my parents 'cause I got scared."
The suspect's name was not released.
The shooting will be investigated by both the LAPD and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
