1 Arrested After LASD Deputy Is Dragged By Driver During Traffic Stop

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) -- A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy was injured after a violent encounter with a suspect she was attempting to pull over for a traffic stop.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Sunday on Vermont Avenue and 87th Street.

During the traffic stop, the suspect grabbed the female deputy by the arm and sped off northbound on Vermont Avenue, dragging the deputy approximately ten blocks.

The deputy was able to free herself shortly after in the vicinity of 89th Street and Vermont Avenue, where other units responded to help.

Other South Los Angeles deputies then tried to stop the suspect, who led them on a pursuit that eventually came to an end near Florence Avenue and Western Avenue in Los Angeles.

Once the suspect stopped the vehicle, she allegedly exited and tried to escape from authorities, which is when officials say one of the deputies accidentally discharged their firearm.

No one was injured or struck by the bullet, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident, authorities said.

The deputy, who was injured after being dragged by the suspect, was treated and released from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance.
