Long Beach neighbors say a group of e-bike riders are a nuisance and frightening
They come in like a storm of chaos, blocking the street on their e-bikes, and Long Beach neighbors say they don't feel safe as the teens' behavior is frightening.
The neighbors don't want to use their names or show their faces because they're afraid of retaliation from the group of young people who seem to have taken over their neighborhood.
"We don't know what they're gonna do. We don't know how far these kids will go," one woman says.
They say it's already gone far enough. "They're yelling at everybody that we're pedophiles," one man said. Another woman said they are screaming racial slurs and throwing fireworks.
Security video from earlier this month in the Plaza neighborhood of East Long Beach shows the teens riding up to a car, wearing GoPros on their helmets, likely filming it.
"All she wanted to do was go by them; she even stopped her car so they could have gotten by her, but no! They went and blocked her," a neighbor said. Then they threw a construction cone at her windshield.
"If they're saying things to you, calling you names, throwing things at you, and hitting you, even with your hands or whatever, that's a terroristic threat to me," the woman said.
Residents in the neighborhood say they have called police, but they're being told that there's not much that can be done unless the situation escalates.
One neighbor said a police officer responded and said that they're not allowed to chase the e-bikers, should one of the riders get hurt, then they are liable.
The Long Beach police department says it will increase patrols and take the harassment situation seriously, but these neighbors want more to be done.
They're sharing the videos, hoping the teens' parents will also get involved.
