Long Beach police say 1 dead, 2 hospitalized after speeding Tesla crashes outside Target shopping center

A man was killed after a speeding Tesla crashed into another car and then a wall outside the Target shopping center off Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach on Saturday night, according to police. 

The crash happened at around 10:35 p.m. in the 5700 block of PCH, when LBPD officers say a 2026 Tesla driving west "at a high rate of speed" struck a 2025 Volkswagen leaving the shopping center.

"The Tesla then jumped the curb and struck a cinder block wall causing additional damage to several parked vehicles," a news release from LBPD said. "The Volkswagen struck a sign."

The Tesla driver, an unidentified man, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said. 

Both occupants of the Volkswagen, women aged 43 and 48, were also taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately known.

"Speed and impaired driving appear to be contributing factors in this collision," LBPD's release said.
