LAPD: Sexual Predator May Have Used Twitter To Find A Victim
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police are investigating whether the suspect in a brazen daytime sexual assault last week used the social networking site Twitter to prey on his victim.
A solo female hiker was approaching the end of an Elysian Park hiking trail near Academy Avenue and Stadium Way around 1 p.m. on Oct. 31.
It was then that KCAL9's Juan Fernandez reports the woman tweeted her exact location, saying she was walking back to her car.
Police say moments later, as she approached her vehicle, the suspect came out of the bushes and grabbed her from behind.
The assailant put one hand over the victim's mouth and sexually assaulted her with his other hand.
LAPD investigators tell Fernandez they are looking into whether Twitter played a role in the attack, as anyone searching tweets in the area could have seen the victim's post.
The woman was able to give police a description of her attacker, and said she had seen him in the park before.
The suspect is described as a male, Hispanic in his early to mid 30's. He is about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 210 pounds. He was wearing a white T-shirt and light blue basketball shorts.
